Holiday/New Year Family Hike Family hike between Christmas & New Year to Hidden Valley on South Mountain. Leaders: Mr. Bitzko & Mr. Moore Saturday December 27th @ 8:00am to approx noon Post Trip Update: 17 Scouts and family members completed this out & back + loop hike! Another great day for hiking - cool early on for the hike up an unmarked trail to the Guadalupe Ridgeline trail (now unmarked) and then on across the ridge & down to the National trail right at Fat Man's Pass - the upper entrance to Hidden Valley. We lingered at the Pass for a while - its a fun place to climb & slide on & squeeze through the rocks. Then we hiked down through Hidden Valley past the rock-fall to the lower entrance at the Natural Tunnel. We again lingered for a while - another fun place climb the rocks. From back above the Tunnel we climbed back up to the Guadalupe Ridgeline and back the way we came. On the way down we got too spread-out and lost a Scout for a while at the trail intersection at Desert Classic... Pretty quickly found again! Must hike as a team guys! Troop278 outing! Original Announcement: This is an approx 6 mile loop hike with about 1000 feet of elevation gain. Taken slowly its less strenuous than our very popular recent Thanksgiving Hike and affords lots of great stopping places for views over the Desert Classic Trail on the way up and at Fat Mans Pass, at the rockfall inside Hidden Valley and at the Tunnel at the entrance to the bottom of Hidden Valley. We will hike a short distance on the Desert Classic trail but all the rest will be on some of the 'secret' unmarked trails... This hike should be manageable by all in good health - however at any point family groups can return the way you came (all downhill on the way back) for a shorter hike. (Scouts must be accompanied at all times). All non-Scout youth participants must be accompanied by a parent. See the
