Troop - Board Of Review (BOR): A Board Of Review is a meeting between a Scout and parents selected by the Troop committee - to be certain that the requirements for rank advancement were met. The Board Of Review Coordinator or the Advancement Coordinator selects the members of the Board. This time is also used to assess the Troop’s program from the boy’s perspective. Scheduling yourself into a BOR: First make sure you have completed all the rank requirements and (will) have completed a Scoutmaster conference for that rank before attending the BOR. Contact the BOR Coordinator by phone or email at least a week in advance to ensure you can be scheduled in to the next BOR. The BOR meetings are often held on the 3rd Thursday of the month - but check the Troop calendar and newsletter to be sure. How to Prepare & What To Expect: The BOR will ask selected questions on the advancement requirements for both the current rank you are working towards AND all previously completed ranks, so Be Prepared! Scouts should dress in their full "Class A+" uniform. Be neat and wear your merit badge sash, as the BOR panel will notice your merit badge achievements. These become important for the upper ranks. Bring your Scout Handbook to the BOR so that requirements can be checked and rank advancements can be signed-off immediately., Be ready to discuss Service Projects and Troop Fundraisers you have supported The BOR will ask about your Scouting participation & experiences. This is a good chance to propose new ideas or changes to troop operation (e.g. regular meetings, etc.), or to outdoor activities that the troop runs. The BOR will also want to know about your plans for future advancement, how are you progressing on your next rank? have you planned out when you think you will be ready for your next BOR? Have you planned your merit badge completions to meet the upper rank requirements? Have you selected Eagle required merit badges? or will you? Have you completed participation, service hours and leadership requirements needed for your next rank? or do you have plans for this? Specific Topics the BOR will likely ask you about: • SCOUTMASTER’S CONFERENCE - Completed? • UNIFORM - Do you look smart? full uniform? all your badges correct? • SCOUT SPIRIT - Know and follow the Scout Oath, Law, Motto, Slogan, Outdoor Code? • SKILLS - All skill requirements have been learned well? (Selected skills are tested) • PARTICIPATION - Your attendance at meetings and on outings? • MERIT BADGES - How many? Are you on track? Are you working on more? • LEADERSHIP (Esp. Star+) - What is your leadership (position?) impact on the Troop? • SERVICE (Esp. Star+) - Discuss hours worked and results? • SATISFACTION - What do you like/not like about the Troop? and program/events? • SUGGESTIONS - Anything you'd like to suggest to Troop leaders? The Monthly Board of Review is usually held in the Community Room of Phoenix Fire Station (#43) on the North side of Chandler Blvd opposite the Safeway Plaza at 40th St. (park on the west side).
