Boy Scout Ranks:

Ranks in Boy Scouts range from Scout to Eagle in progression:

Scout:

Tenderfoot:

This is the entry rank into Boy Scouts - there are a few requirements beyond the basics of membership application, but there is no Board of Review requirement - the rank is granted immediately on being signed off by the Scoutmaster at the Scoutmaster Conference.

Tenderfoot is the first Scout rank that requires significant skills learning & demonstration. It also includes a requires completion of at least 1 night of overnight camping. This rank and all following it require a Scoutmaster Conference and a Board of Review.

2nd Class Scout

The 2nd Class Scout rank continues the basic Scout skills training. It also introduces the aspect of service - with a requirement for 1 hour of community service. It also includes Scout activity participation requirements.

1st Class Scout:

1st Class Scout rank completes the basic skills training. At this point a Scout has learned all the practical scout-craft skills needed. From this point on his focus will be on training others, leadership & service. He will also select some areas of his own interests for the required merit badge completions. He is now eligible for election into the Order of the Arrow if he has sufficient total camping nights.

Star Scout:

Star Scouts have demonstrated their troop leadership for at least 4 months and have completed at least 6 hours of community service. They have also earned at least 6 merit badges, with at least 4 of these required for Eagle Scout, and others they have chosen themselves. Their further development will require more in all these areas as they act as an experienced resource to the troop.

Life Scout:

Life Scouts have continued to demonstrate leadership in the troop for at least 6 more months,  continued to earn more merit badges - now at least 11 with at least 7 required for Eagle and have accumulated at least 6 more hours of community service. They often hold many of the key leadership positions in the troop.

Eagle Scout:

Eagle Scouts have earned a total of at least 21 merit badges - including all the12 Eagle required badges and 9 more of their choice. They have served in a troop leadership position for at least another 6 months and have completed a major community service/benefit project. They must plan & lead their own Eagle service project to successful completion while coordinating the efforts of many others.
