Boy Scout Ranks: Ranks in Boy Scouts range from Scout to Eagle in progression: Scout:
Tenderfoot:
This is the entry rank into Boy Scouts - there are a
few requirements beyond the basics of membership application, but there is
no Board of Review requirement - the rank is granted immediately on being
signed off by the Scoutmaster at the Scoutmaster Conference.
Tenderfoot is the first Scout rank that requires
significant skills learning & demonstration. It also includes a requires
completion of at least 1 night of overnight camping. This rank and all following it
require a Scoutmaster Conference and a Board of Review.
2nd Class Scout
The 2nd Class Scout rank continues the basic Scout
skills training. It also introduces the aspect of service - with a requirement
for 1 hour of community service. It also includes Scout activity
participation requirements.
1st Class Scout:
1st Class Scout rank completes the basic skills
training. At this point a Scout has learned all the practical scout-craft
skills needed. From this point on his focus will be on training others,
leadership & service. He will also select some areas of his own interests
for the required merit badge completions. He is now eligible for election
into the Order of the Arrow if he has sufficient total camping nights.
Star Scout:
Star Scouts have demonstrated their troop leadership
for at least 4 months and have completed at least 6 hours of community service.
They have also earned at least 6 merit badges, with at least 4 of these required for Eagle Scout,
and others they have chosen themselves. Their further development will require
more in all these areas as they act as an experienced resource to the
troop.
Life Scout:
Life Scouts have continued to demonstrate leadership
in the troop for at least 6 more months, continued to earn more merit badges
- now at least 11 with at least 7 required for Eagle and have accumulated
at least 6 more hours of community service. They often hold many of the key
leadership positions in the troop.
Eagle Scout:
Eagle Scouts have earned a total of at least 21 merit
badges - including all the12 Eagle required badges and 9 more of their
choice. They have served in a troop
leadership position for at least another 6 months and have completed a major community
service/benefit project. They must plan & lead their own Eagle service
project to
successful completion while coordinating the efforts of many others.
