Outdoor Activity Leaders and Co-Leaders:
The Troop has an extensive outdoor program and is
always looking for parents to volunteer as activity leaders to help plan,
organize and lead Troop events. See the
Troop
calendar for examples of planned and recent activities and the
activity owners.
Activity Leaders work with the Outdoor Coordinator (a
committee officer) who helps with general expectations, planning cycle,
materials, tour permits and general logistics
If you volunteer as an Activity Leader (or maybe
initially as a Co-Leader to gain experience) you can propose a new Troop event
to the Troop Planning meeting in August or simply volunteer for one of the
activities that is selected by the Troop.
Duties:
- Register as a Leader/Co-Leader in advance
with the Outdoor Coordinator
- If needed
participate in a few Troop events to understand how this works
- Select or propose a Calendar Activity to
Lead/Co-Lead (propose to Scoutmaster)
- Follow the Troop Guidelines on setting up
the event see
Planning Guidelines
- In general this includes: a trial run if
appropriate, detailed flyer, newsletter announcement, sign-up sheet, travel
logistics & drivers, coordinating departure, en-route plans, leading the
event, have photos taken, return logistics, collate photos & write brief
summary for website. (these required materials exist in template form on the
website). These items will be split between Leader & Co-Leader
- You should complete the online
Youth
Protection Training before you depart
- It is suggested you try to do something
'different' especially if this is a repeat trip to a well known location.
Plan a service project, a Scout advancement or skills activity, a game
activity or a side trip to/for something new. Keep it fresh!
- See the BSA
Age Appropriate Guidelines for examples of
acceptable activities
