Scoutmaster -  Job Description Outline:

The Scoutmaster is the adult leader responsible for the image and program of the Troop. The Scoutmaster and assistant Scoutmasters work directly with the Scouts. The importance of the Scoutmaster's job is reflected in the fact that the quality of the guidance will affect every youth and adult involved in the troop.

The Scoutmaster can be male or female but must be at least 21 years old. The Scoutmaster is selected and recruited  by the Troop committee and approved by the chartered organization representative.

Duties:

  •  Train and guide Scouts and Scouts in youth leadership positions

  •  Work with other responsible adults to bring Scouting to boys

  •  Use the methods of Scouting to achieve the aims of Scouting

  •  Meet regularly  with the PLC for training & coordination in planning Troop activities

  •  Attend troop meeting or arrange for a qualified adult substitute

  •  Attend troop committee meetings 

ASM - Assistant Scoutmaster -  Job Description Outline:

Assistant Scoutmasters support the Scoutmaster in his duties and may stand in for the Scoutmaster during absences or at activities where they are not present. The ASM works directly with the Scouts on Scouting skills and may have/develop expertise in certain Scouting skills to lead the Troop in these areas of skills training.

Assistant scoutmasters can be male or female but must be at least 21 years old.

Duties:

  •  Support the Scoutmaster in his/her duties
      - Train and guide Scouts & Scouts in youth leadership positions
      - Work with other responsible adults to bring Scouting to boys
      - Use the methods of Scouting to achieve the aims of Scouting
     

  •  Teach specific Scouting skills as a resource for the troop
