Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) - Job Description:

The top youth leader in the Troop, he leads the Patrol Leader's Council and in consultation with the Scoutmaster appoints the other youth leaders and assigns specific responsibilities as needed. The senior patrol leader is elected by the Troop usually for a 6 month term.

NB In Troop elections for this role - first preference is given to Scouts at Star Rank and above.

Duties:

- Runs All Troop Meetings and Troop Activities

- Runs the Patrol Leaders Council

- Sets A Good Example to other Scouts

- Assigns Duties/Roles to other Junior Leaders

Note - at major events like summer camps - if the SPL & ASPL are not attending a temporary SPL will be selected/elected to lead the Troop for just that activity.

Be Prepared:

This is the most important youth leadership role in the Troop. Please plan to attend every meeting, activity and Troop committee meeting - if you cannot be sure your assistant can cover for you and is well prepared.

You must set a good example for the other youth leaders and the rest of the Troop by wearing the full uniform.

 

The ASPL is appointed - usually at the same time as the SPL election:

NB In Troop election/selections for this role - first preference is given to Scouts at Star Rank and above.                 

The ASPL stands in for the SPL in his absence (see SPL role above).

Unique Duties:

- Member of the PLC and should attend all meetings.

- Supports the SPL in conducting Troop meetings and Troop activities

       - Responsible for training and giving direction to some of the troop's junior leaders:

- Scribe
- Quartermaster
- Librarian
- Historian
- Instructors 
- OA Troop Representative

He should familiarize himself with these roles and ideally should have already held most of those roles prior to this ASPL assignment:
