Troop Drivers Registration:

We like to sign up as many parents as Troop drivers as is possible
- please register in advance with the Scoutmaster - you can do this by email

Ideally driving to/from activities will be shared approximately equitably between Scout families over the total program of events

In order to drive other Scouts we need you to provide Troop driver registration details: your vehicle details (# front/rear seats with seatbelts), drivers license#, contact information and liability insurance limits (at least $50K/$100K/$50K is required or at least $100K/$500K/$100K for any vehicle with >9 passengers).

When driving to activities you may drive as a loose convoy - but should not attempt to stay in tight formation - maintaining visual contact should be sufficient - the use of cell phones, CB/FRS radios and pre-arranged en-route regrouping spots also helps in this.  This requirement is to avoid the risk of accidents between vehicles transporting Scouts.

When driving Scouts other than your own son on an organized Scout activity - you should always have in your possession the filled out and signed permission slips for all Scouts traveling in your vehicle. When you arrive at the destination deliver the permission slips to an activity leader.

All drivers of other Scouts must be over 18.

All Scouts must sit in a regular seat with a seatbelt. Under no circumstances may Scouts ride in the bed of a pick-up truck.

Review the BSA Driver's Pledge

Review the BSA Transportation Guidelines

Individual drivers should set & communicate their own reasonable rules concerning travel in their vehicles - Scouts should respect those rules.  For example, drinking & eating may be prohibited, or limited to water. The use of phones, radios, music players may be limited. Scouts may be asked to be quiet and stay still during travel to avoid driver distraction. Scouts may also be asked to sit in specific positions during the travel. On long trips driver's should plan for appropriate bathroom stops en-route and ensure that Scouts know they can request emergency bathroom breaks.

Note no drivers under 18 are allowed to drive any other Scouts to any Scouting events, including to regular Troop meetings (a safety consideration).

At least once per year - often aligned with the Troop Parent meetings the troop will cover these guidelines and request driver sign-up. It is our goal to register in advance all parents who may ever consider driving other Scouts to a Troop event.
