Email Aliases - What are they? All Email contact information on this site is stored in password protected areas (We have anonymous 'form mail' for site maintenance and a few official contacts). For email contact information that is on the site in the password protected areas we only use email aliases - no real email addresses. We do this for the protection of our members and parents as well as to ease the administration of the site. An email alias will be in the format of " <name/label> @ Troop278.net" See the Secure Contacts page for examples of these Adult Leaders & Parents: Emails sent to you this way will be redirected to your actual email address. Even if someone were to access the password protected areas of the site where email contact information is posted they will still not be able to see your actual email address. They will be able to send you an email via the
forwarding feature. If inappropriate emails or spam become a problem from this source the alias can be terminated/renamed without any other impact to your personal email accounts - to report issues Contact the Webmaster. Scouts: We recommend (especially for younger Scouts) that you have emails for them directed to a parent's email account. If your Scout has his own email and you want him to use it we recommend you also have all Troop alias forwarded emails copied to a parental account or accounts (we will normally do this by default if the Scout has a different email address). These safeguards provide a relatively safe parentally controlled (or at least monitored) means for Scouts to receive Troop related emails. These selections can be made on the Troop Website Personal Information Approval Form and submitted by email (preferred) or hard copy. |
